MarineMax appoints Smith VP of new superyacht division

MarineMax, the nation’s largest recreational boat and yacht retailer, has appointed William (Billy) Smith as vice president of MarineMax Superyachts Division. The new division will provide services for customers seeking to build or buy a superyacht, as well as ownership and management resources.

Smith graduated from Springhill College in 1975, then began his career in the marine industry at family-owned companies T. Smith and Sons and Crescent Towing and Salvage. In 1980, Smith and his father founded Modern Diesel Power to introduce into the U.S. market towboats that could burn alternative fuels. He later worked at Trinity Yachts, where he became vice president of sales and marketing.

He is a founding member and former board member of the Superyacht Builders Association; member and former vice chairman of the United States Superyacht Association; a founding member of the International Superyacht Society; member of the New York Yacht Club and Pass Christian Yacht Club; and a founding board member of the Gulf Coast Conservation Association of Louisiana.

MarineMax, headquartered in Clearwater, Fla., sells new and used recreational boats and related marine products at 62 retail locations across the U.S., and provides yacht brokerage and charter services, including MarineMax Vacations in Tortola, British Virgin Islands, and  MarineMax Private Yacht Charters, launched in 2016.
