Captains Sandy Yawn and Lee Rosbach will join about 150 yacht and marine industry volunteers on spinning bikes to raise money for charities during the 8th Spin-a-thon this Friday, April 28, in Ft. Lauderdale.

Capt. Yawn will be seen on the upcoming second season of the Bravo TV reality show “Below Deck Mediterranean” when it premiers on May 2. The Florida native will run M/Y Scirocco, a 154-foot Heesen, during charters in Croatia. Last season’s show featured veteran Capt. Mark Howard on the 150-foot Christensen M/Y Ionian Princess with short-term charters around Greece. Capt. Rosbach has been at the helm for four seasons of the original series “Below Deck” with charters in the Caribbean.

Other attendees at the Spinathon include Dr. Jennifer Berman from TV’s “The Doctors” as well as elected officials from Broward County, the city of Fort Lauderdale, community leaders and charity representatives.

The event is produced by the Marine Industry Cares Foundation and open to the community at D.C. Alexander Park at 501 N. Fort Lauderdale Beach Blvd. (33304). The national anthem and opening remarks begin at 2:45 p.m. and spinning runs from 3-7 p.m. A thank you party will take place from 7-8 p.m.

Money raised will go to youth science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) programs; for children with special healthcare needs; and children at-risk for abuse and neglect.

MICF organizes youth summer camps, creative arts scholarship contests and supports partners such as Kids In Distress  and Children’s Diagnostic and Treatment Center through financial and other donations and volunteerism.

Registration is available online and on-site registration is available for $30. Space is not guaranteed. Parking is available at the Bahia Mar Resort and Hotel for a $5 all-day rate for participants and guests who clarify with parking attendants that they are with the Spin-a-thon.
