Three injured in helicopter crash off yacht Bacarella in Norway

Update May 13

A loose cover may have caused helicopter crash

An investigation into the helicopter crash during an attempted landing on M/Y Bacarella continues. Two people were treated and released from a hospital and one remains in critical condition after the helicopter went into the water near the yacht on May 10.

The wreck of the Airbus AS-350B-3 helicopter, the flight data recorder and the yacht’s CCTV video footage were retrieved from the water after the incident. An article in Maritime Executive said the helicopter was possibly disabled by a flying fueling station cover that was onboard the yacht. Investigators in Norway said that the cover flew into the rotor hub, which caused loss of control.
