Yacht captain Jim Rosenberg has started Landfall Marine, a Fort Lauderdale-based project management firm specializing in refits and maintenance periods.

His most recent command was the 149-foot Newcastle M/Y Carson, which the owner bought half-built from the yard. Capt. Rosenberg oversaw the 18-month build out at a South Florida shipyard and then ran it for a year.

Owners with projects tend to seek him out, he said, and he’s run several extensive yard periods.

“I’ve always kind of wound up with projects,” he said. “The reason I’m doing this — besides the fact that I like doing it — is that I want to take the experience the owners of Carson had and duplicate it. Too many owners have been soured by a poor refit experience and get out [of yachting]. I want to make it a positive experience and keep them around. We need them.”

Landfall also manages typical maintenance periods to minimize downtime. In all projects, Capt. Rosenberg said he starts by developing a clear picture of yacht owner expectations, then creates a comprehensive scope of work, schedule, and budget. Landfall Marine is in the midst of a five-month repower project on a 45m in South Florida.
