Fort Pierce yard gets another chance

Sep 22, 2017 by Lucy Chabot Reed

County commissioners in St. Lucie County voted yesterday to buy 12 acres of land in the Port of Fort Pierce for $25 million and operate a refit and repair yard for yachts, according to a story in the St. Lucie News Tribune.

There is a 90-day due diligence period, but county officials are prepared to lease the land for $50,000 a month during that time to get the facility started. According to the newspaper, Port Director Stan Payne would oversee the facility.

The sale is contingent upon the findings of two appraisals, an environmental assessment, a land survey and a title insurance commitment, the newspaper reported.
