Hawaiians turn superyacht away

A group of residents gathered at Molokai harbor recently to let Russian billionaire tech investor Yuri Milner know he and his megayacht, M/Y Ulysses, were not welcome, Hawaii News Now has reported.

“We’re a small community. Anyone with that kind of money to buy such a cruise ship could come here and take control of the whole island,” resident Walter Ritte told the news station.

It wasn’t clear whether Milner wanted to dock or moor his yacht in the Molokai harbor, but the residents conveyed their message to the crew via walkie talkie. Eventually, the yacht turned around and headed toward Maui instead.

M/Y Ulysses, a 350-foot (107m) Kleven explorer yacht, was delivered to New Zealand-based billionaire Graeme Hart in 2016, and sold to Milner in October. Asking price was $195 million. She has a crew of 48 and can accommodate 30 guests in 15 cabins.
