Martek Marine, a British manufacturer of marine equipment, has established Martek Aviation to meet the growing demand for unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), or drone, services.

The new division will focus on the maritime application of remotely piloted aircraft system (RPAS) services, such as surveillance, search and rescue, and pollution detection, according to a company statement.

The division, with a staff of more than 70 so far, has a combined 43,000 hours of flying – 9,500 hours in maritime alone – and experience in the operation and maintenance of more than 60 types of manned and unmanned aircraft, according to the company.
