A man believed to be a yacht crew member was shot in the hand near Simpson Bay Marina in St. Maarten early Monday morning.

According to media reports, the man left a sports bar and was offered a ride by two men he didn’t know. Near the marina, the men demanded money from the man. He was shot in his left hand after telling the men he had no money. He then ran toward the yacht club security booth where the police were called.

The victim was transported to St. Maarten Medical Center where he was undergoing treatment and observation, according to a story in The Daily Herald newspaper. The local forensic department collected evidence at the scene and detectives are investigating the incident.
