Feadship launches 243-foot Sherpa

M/Y Sherpa, previously Feadship 815, has been launched via the slipway at Feadship’s yard in Kaag, Netherlands, to facilitate work that could not be done inside the construction hall because of the yacht’s height. The work includes installing a mast, air/exhaust funnels and cranes to the deck of the 243-foot (74m) yacht.

Sherpa has been designed for an experienced yachtsman who is a repeat client for Feadship, according to a company news release. The yacht’s exterior finish features an unfaired hull that leaves the plate work and welding exposed, generating an industrial look as requested by the owner. Expedition-style architecture will accommodate large tenders and various vehicles for use on land. Two boom cranes extendable to 12 and 20 meters, respectively, will hoist items from port and starboard, on and off the helicopter deck, and to and from multipurpose garage platforms below.

The yacht’s exterior finish features an unfaired hull that leaves the plate work and welding exposed.

A hull door on the starboard side can be folded down to create a beach club with a flush floor, while the cargo bay platform on the port side rotates upward. The stern bulwark also rotates and can serve as a swimming platform to the beach club.

Below the helicopter platform is a lounge, dining area and bar/pantry. The rest of the interior living spaces are in the forward sections of the yacht, including an observatory on the bridge deck. The main deck houses the owner’s stateroom, two VIP staterooms and four suites sleeping seven guests.

Sherpa’s official christening ceremony and delivery will be later this year, according to Feadship.
