LYBRA launches first superyacht show

About 1,200 yacht brokers and buyers attended the first edition of the Large Yacht Brokers Association (LYBRA) Superyacht Show on May 2-5 at OneOcean Port Vell in Barcelona. Eight yacht brokerage companies exhibited 22 yachts between 40m and 80m, according to a group press release.

The show takes place after the MYBA Charter Show in Barcelona and the Palma International Boat Show in Palma de Mallorca, and aims to focus specifically on buyers and brokers.

“Boat shows are great for professional networking, supplier meetings and B2B discussions, but the most important people, the yacht buyers themselves, have started drifting away,” said Eric Blair, secretary general of LYBRA, in the release. “Our members wanted to go back to basics, where the real stars of the show are the superyachts.”

“This show is all about quality, not quantity,” said Jonathan Beckett, president of LYBRA. “However, we were pleasantly surprised with the number of qualified clients on the dock. We don’t want to draw crowds of people – in fact,  just the opposite. Our aim is simply to create an intimate setting where real buyers have an opportunity to view the boats in privacy and comfort.”

LYBRA is based in Monaco and members include Burgess, Edmiston, Fraser, IYC, Merle Wood & Associates, Northrop & Johnson, Ocean Independence and Yachtzoo. Plans are underway for next year’s show in Barcelona, and the group plans to add 10 more large yachts berths.
