May 16, 2018 by Triton Staff

Front Street Shipyard in Belfast, Maine, has secured financing to begin construction of a new facility adjacent to its existing yard on the Belfast waterfront. The shipyard intends to build a 22,500-square-foot building on the property to accommodate large yacht refits and commercial vessel construction projects.

Construction is expected to begin immediately on the facility, known as Building 6, according to a statement from the shipyard. Front Street Shipyard’s 485-ton hoist is the largest in northern New England, and Building 6 will be tall enough to allow the hoist to drive boats inside, maximizing space and reducing the need for additional support equipment, according to the shipyard. The facility is expected to be ready this fall.
