Following its first 50-knot composite powerboat project, the 75-foot (23m) Seven, Hoek Design has announced that two more of its motor yacht concepts have been sold and are under construction – a 184-foot (56m) exploration yacht and a 76-foot (23.4m) chase boat.

The Dutch naval architectural firm, led by André Hoek, has applied its success in designing sailing yachts to its new motor yacht designs, which combine a retro style above water with a hydro-dynamically optimized configuration under water, according to a company statement.

“Sailing yacht designers are very focused on hull efficiency compared to powerboat designers,” Hoek stated. “Many motoryacht concepts have often made more powerful simply by fitting bigger engines. But now that questions of environmental sustainability loom so much larger, fuel-efficient hulls are becoming of greater importance. Hoek Design has unique experience in this field.”

Project Lombok, a 56m diesel-electric expedition yacht, is now under construction at Turquoise Yachts. Just shy of 800 GT, Lombok has a steel hull and aluminum superstructure, with a canoe stern and deep-V icebreaking bow, and ice class 1B certification under RINA rules.
