STP Shipyard Palma expects to have a 1,000-ton travel lift in operation this fall. The new boat hoist, at 85 feet (26m) long, 41 feet (12.5m) wide and 82 feet (25m) high, will have the largest hoist-out capacity in Europe, according to the shipyard.

With 32 electronically powered wheels and twin 286 hp Volvo engines, it will be able to move motor yachts of up to 187 feet (57m) and sailboats of up to 220 feet (67m). It has 32 slings and four hoists per side – one fixed and three mobile.

Components of the travel lift will be received in Mallorca in 23 containers from July onward. According to the shipyard, a five-strong team of professionals will use the most powerful cranes in the Balearics (one of 300 metric tons and two of 200 metric tons) to lift out the parts and proceed with assembly, which is scheduled for completion in September.

“We’re adapting to the industry’s demands, which are coming about because of the ever-growing popularity of the Balearic Islands among superyachts as the ideal destination for refit and repair works,” Jose María Campuzano, CEO of STP Shipyard Palma, stated in a company press release.

STP is situated in the heart of the city of Palma de Mallorca, Spain. For more information, visit stp-palma.com.
