Mazu teams with Navionics

Mazu/Skymate, a technology company based in Reston, Virginia, has added Navionics charts to its Mazu iPad app, according to a company statement. The app acts as a user interface with the company’s mSeries satellite connectivity system. Once the mSeries system is installed and activated, any device on board with a browser – PCs, Macs, Android devices, etc. – can connect wirelessly to the system.

The Mazu iPad app provides a dashboard to access email, SMS texts, NOAA weather alerts, wind and wave reports, GRIB files, emergency response and other functions. Navigation includes routes, waypoints, NMEA data, and on-screen tracking, now featuring Navionics charts. The Mazu iPad app also can be used off the boat where other internet sources are available. To open and use the charts from the Mazu dashboard, those with an active Navionics subscription can register on the app using their Navionics credentials, according to the company.

Navionics, an Italian cartography company headquartered in Viareggio and recently acquired by Garmin Ltd., has the world’s largest database of marine, lake and river charts.
