Work on Damen’s SeaXplorer 77 expedition yacht progresses, after a keel laying ceremony this summer at Damen Shipyards Galati on the banks of the Danube, where the owner welded the traditional coin on the keel. SeaXplorer 77 is the largest of two projects under construction from the Dutch yard’s SeaXplorer range.
“The SeaXplorer 77 shares the range’s core attributes: compliance with the IMO Polar Code, the long periods of autonomy at sea, and the crossover of superyacht luxury with professional capability,” Mark Vermeulen, product director, stated in a company news release. “But the design incorporates many specific client requirements such as his passion for heliskiing.”
Following the hull-building phase, the 253-foot (77m) yacht will be taken to Damen’s Vlissingen East yard in the Netherlands for completion, with delivery expected in late 2020. The yacht will accommodate 12 guests in six suites. Twenty-five crew, pilots and expedition staff will operate a submersible, tenders, toys and two aircraft with a certified helideck and helicopter hangar.
Overall management of the project is handled at Damen’s headquarters in Vlissingen, design and engineering at their Gorinchem shipyard, hull building at the Galati shipyard, and final construction and outfitting at their Vlissingen East yard.
