Fort Lauderdale charter, Water Taxi captain killed by train

Capt. John Burgess of Fort Lauderdale was found dead after being hit by a train in downtown Fort Lauderdale on Aug. 11. He had a boat charter business and was a former captain with Water Taxi of Fort Lauderdale. He was 39.

The freight train was traveling north on the Florida East Coast Railway track on the south side of the New River near Southwest Fifth Street when the collision occurred. The incident is under investigation. To read more visit the South Florida Sun Sentinel.
