Waxy closed for renovations

Now that the FIFA World Cup matches are over, Waxy O’Connor’s Irish Pub on Southeast 17th Street in Fort Lauderdale has temporarily closed for a major renovation.

Long a gathering place for yacht crew, the restaurant and bar is expanding into the building it owns to the north, creating a new kitchen and bathrooms, and allowing for a larger seating area and bar.

Waxy’s is expected to reopen in time for the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, which begins Oct. 31.
