Smart lock system redesigned for smaller yachts

The Remotekey Intelligent Locking System made by Smart Locks for Yachts is now available in an edition tailored to smaller yachts. The new edition is derived from a configuration already in use aboard megayachts.

According to Smart Locks for Yachts, the web-based system can mechanically open locks from the inside, remotely lock and unlock doors using a mobile device or computer, and produce intelligent time scheduling and up-to-the-minute access logs. Contractors and visitors can be granted access to customizable routes via a free app-based key that can be monitored from anywhere in the world, so owners have full control of their movements and always know who is on board, according to the company.

The locking system requires internet connectivity for remote access, while all onboard mechanisms are operated on the local radio network. The locks themselves hold all data, so they continue to function if power is lost and can be altered or backed up using close-proximity technology.

According to the company, the system can be fitted to most marine door types, as well as integrated with cranes and passerelles, and tender and toy tie-downs are secured with a “smart padlock.” Flush-mounted deck hatches can also be fastened via Smart Locks for Yachts’ own patented lock.

The Remotekey Intelligent Locking System will be showcased at the Southampton Boat Show, Stand J328 in Ocean Hall, Sept 14-23.
