New SPOT tracker has texting capability

The new SPOT X is a new two-way satellite messaging device that combines S.O.S. emergency notification technology with text messaging to provide safety regardless of cellular range, according to SPOT, a California-based company known for GPS tracking and emergency locator devices.

SPOT X uses satellite communication to allow users to send SMS and email messages to any phone number or email address worldwide, without the requirement of mobile phone service.The device also provides S.O.S. emergency signaling, tracking, navigation and other messaging features.
