Iridium Certus satellite system launched

Successful beta- and field-testing of the new Iridium Certus satellite system was recently reported by Calgary, Canada-based Network Innovations, an Iridium service provider that conducted the tests. According to a Network Innovations press release, the company conducted rigorous tests with global teams while helping Iridium prepare to commercially launch the product.

“This service is bringing smaller, lighter, faster and more cost-effective terminals to an L-band industry market sorely in need of a new choice for its critical communications applications,” Bryan Hartin, Iridium executive vice president, stated.

Network Innovations has been involved in testing new L-Band satellite services since 1996. According to Network Innovations, an in-depth understanding of the Iridium Certus gained through beta- and field-testing of both the service and the hardware has enabled it to hit the ground running in sales and support of the product. Network Innovations began delivering and activating commercial Iridium Certus units Jan. 18.

In addition, an “upcoming increase in speed and suite of additional onboard services will increase the uniqueness of the Iridium Certus service,” the company stated.

Network Innovations designs, delivers and supports satellite communication systems for maritime, aero, land-based and government markets.
