Oceanco’s recently delivered M/Y Bravo Eugenia won the first ever La Belle Classe Explorer Award presented by the Yacht Club of Monaco on March 28. This award is based on naval etiquette, preservation of the ocean and its biodiversity, and technological innovation, according to a company press release.

The 357-foot (109m) yacht is Oceanco’s first LIFE-designed vessel, developed in collaboration with Lateral Naval Architects. It features a lengthened waterline, innovative layout, fuel-efficient hull design and the integration of ecologically conscious technologies. According to Oceanco, the LIFE design leads to a reduction in the overall demand for propulsion power. As a result, the engine room is condensed to a single tier, affording additional room for lifestyle areas.

An optimized hybrid propulsion system uses the latest energy-saving technologies and benefits from best-in-class hydrodynamic efficiency, new heat and energy-recovery systems, and integrated battery systems to allow for optimal operation at all times, according to Oceanco. The system is extremely powerful as well as environmentally friendly, with a reduction in fuel usage of up to 27 percent. It meets all existing ECO notation requirements and is able to operate in all emission control areas, thanks to its diminished emissions. An exclusive ‘whisper mode’ has been built in to ensure surrounding yachts are not disturbed when entering and exiting ports.

Monaco’s Prince Albert II, who is president of the Yacht Club of Monaco, presented the Explorer Award to Oceanco’s CEO Marcel Onkenhout, who accepted it on behalf of Bravo Eugenia‘s American owners, Gene and Jerry Jones.

“We are honored to receive such a prestigious award. The opportunity for our entire family to work alongside Oceanco in seeing this project to fruition has been an unparalleled experience in innovation and design,” stated Gene Jones.

The international award jury was chaired by explorer Mike Horn and included the president of the American Explorers Club and president of the Société des Explorateurs Français.
