First Australia Fiji Rendezvous draws 17 yachts

Captains and crew of 17 vessels attended the inaugural Australia Fiji Rendezvous at Port Denarau, Fiji, on Aug. 23. The event was modeled on the Australia Tahiti Rendezvous that Superyacht Australia has staged for seven years.

“The venue and the weather were great. Everyone had a great time,” stated Peter Luke, director of Superyacht Solutions. “Fiji really has established itself as a haven for yachts May through November.”

Angie and Marcelle from M/Y Indigo embrace the Great Barrier Reef theme, winning best overall presentation.

The crew of M/Y Deniki won the BBQ Cooking Competition, in which Australian ingredients and steaks were delivered to participating yachts. Best Dressed went to the crew of M/Y Indigo for their Great Barrier Reef Tropical theme. The day’s events were capped with a traditional dance performance.

“There has been over $100 million spent on refit infrastructure in Australia in the past 12 months,” stated David Good, CEO of Superyacht Australia. “This is the benefit we provide our Pacific neighbors; we can assist in keeping these vessels in the Pacific longer as they do not need to venture all the way back to Europe or the East Coast of the USA for survey or refit. The longer a vessel stays in the Pacific, the more the region benefits as a whole.”
