UPDATE: Thurs. Sept. 5
Capt. Paul Clarke shared a drone photo from yesterday afternoon. The image shows M/Y Loon from high above, alone in the bright blue waters just offshore of Marsh Harbour with the caption, “Only boat here.” Visible in the distance are damaged buildings. He also shared a video of Loon’s tender heading toward shore with the label, “first people ashore.”

A quick conversation with Capt. Paul Clarke of M/Y Loon, a 155-foot Christensen, finds him and the crew just 10 minutes out of Marsh Harbour, Abaco Islands in the Bahamas. The yacht is working with YachtAid Global to help with relief efforts after Hurricane Dorian just three days ago.

“Our aim today is to drop anchor a mile offshore and do tender runs in,” Capt. Clarke said by WhatsApp at 3:30 p.m. today. “We’ll do a quick ground assessment, and then ferry medical supplies into the clinics. We’ll try to do sounding of the harbor to see if bigger vessels can get in.”

The yacht has been taking donations and stands by for more, according to yesterday’s Facebook post, which featured a video of crew preparing the yacht and loading supplies.

“Yesterday was such an incredible day seeing everyone come together to help aid the Bahamas. Thank you to all those that assisted and helped. Donations are still very much needed.”
