A busy flow of cars and trucks dropped off donations at Bradford Marine last night during a barbecue event to aid the Bahamas after the destruction of Hurricane Dorian.
Tools, tarps, grills, water, food and more were ferried to a holding area to prepare for a boat trip to Freeport. One vessel departed this morning with six pallets of collected supplies, and more than 35 pallets are ready to go over, according to Amanda Manning, the yard’s office manager.
More than 500 yacht captains, crew and marine industry professionals bought raffle tickets to support the event, and the Marine Industries Association of South Florida presented a check for $2,500 for the effort. All told, the event raised more than $7,500, including $1,200 from the family of Thurber Withey, the Bradford Marine Bahamas’ former shipyard superintendent who died last September.
