Waxy’s to host clothing drive for Bahamas

Mark Rohleder, owner of the popular yachtie bar Waxy’s Irish Pub on 17th Street in Fort Lauderdale, has organized a last-minute clothing drive for the Bahamas.

“We have a friend living in Grand Bahama who is bringing his boat over tomorrow [Tuesday],” Rohleder wrote in an email to The Triton. “He says his local friends really need clothing of all description and sizes.”

Fresh bread is also sorely needed, he said, so he is working with Cusanos bakery, which is “on standby to deliver fresh bread to the boat on Thursday.”

Sept. 17 also happens to be “halfway to St. Patrick’s Day” so Waxy’s will also feature live music from Emily Furlong and drinks specials from 7 pm to closing. Clothing donations can be dropped off on Waxy’s patio anytime. A raffle during the evening will help pay for the bread.
