Japanese diesel engine and equipment manufacturer Yanmar Marine International has two new multi-purpose engine switch and instrument display products: the YD42 Multi-Function Color Display and the YD25 LCD Switch Panel Display. Both are suitable for yachts, catamarans, motorboats and RIBs, according to a company press release.

The YD42 features a low-profile glass helm design and a 4.1-inch full-color screen. The water-resistant, multi-purpose unit reads and displays Yanmar engine alarm and diagnostic codes. Users can also view engine speed and load, oil pressure and coolant temperature, as well as wind, speed, depth and AIS data. The unit supports eight languages and is compatible with a range of NMEA 2000 devices. Data screens can be configured according to preferences.

The YD42 features a 170-degree viewing angle and superior daytime visibility that is delivered through transflective LCD technology that, according to the company, makes use of reflected sunlight to brighten the display image, with lower power consumption than traditional backlit displays. The screen has a resolution of 320 x 240px and offers a night-time mode, and the LCD panel is optically bonded to its protective glass covering to eliminate condensation or fogging.

The YD25 offers engine start/stop functionality, and shows all Yanmar engine data, alarms and diagnostic codes. It also integrates with multifunction displays and glass helm systems. Intuitive data screen selection keys allow viewing of information including engine speed, engine load, oil pressure and coolant temperature on four customizable screens.

Yanmar says the YD25 is ideal for boats with limited dashboard space. It’s contained in a weather-resistant housing with waterproof silicone keys. The transflective, monochrome 2.5-inch LCD has a viewing angle of 80 degrees and a resolution of 164 x 64px.

“Both the YD42 and YD25 offer a high level of functionality, but are also sleek and modern in appearance to match current multi-function display designs, and are easy to install and use,” stated Sander Gesink, Yanmar marketing manager. “We are confident that they will greatly enhance the boating experience for our customers.”
