FarSounder expands field of view

Oct 4, 2019 by Triton Staff

Rhode Island-based FarSounder has increased its navigation sonars’ capabilities by broadening the field of view up to 120 degrees.

The company’s sonars currently provide users a 90-degree field of view out to 500m and 60-degree field of view out to 1,000m. With this update, both the 100m and 200m range modes will have this new capability, according to a company press release.

The field of view expansion will increase the situational awareness that FarSounder’s forward-looking navigation products provide captains and crew as they navigate uncharted or lesser-charted waters, according to the company. The ability to see more of the environment around the boat aids in avoiding obstacles such as icebergs, reefs, large whales or floating objects.

FarSounder is a marine electronics manufacturer specializing in underwater acoustics. For more information, visit farsounder.com.
