Superyacht Northwest gears up for Pacific Rim eventsNov 21, 2019 by Triton Staff
Three international sporting events scheduled in the Pacific Rim – the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, the 2021 America’s Cup in New Zealand, and the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing – are expected to bring an increase in yachting activity to the Pacific Northwest, according to Superyacht Northwest, an association of businesses providing yacht services and support in the region.
“The maritime industry across the Pacific Northwest is gearing up for what will be an exceptionally busy couple of years for superyachts in our region,” stated George Harris, president of the Northwest Marine Trade Association (NMTA), a founding member of Superyacht Northwest.
In preparation for the upcoming events, Superyacht Northwest members are completing infrastructure upgrades to accommodate the increased traffic, according to a statement from the association.
- Elliott Bay Marina in Seattle is replacing its superyacht moorage with state-of-the-art superyacht docks and power centers.
- For superyacht haul-outs, the Port of Port Angeles has completed construction of a $2 million wash-down facility that can handle vessels up to 165 feet in length.
- On the north shore of Lake Union, recently completed docks at Emerald Landing are capable of mooring and providing luxury support for superyachts of 80-360 feet. Many of the Seattle-based services are freshwater-based.
