1000 Mermaids is raising money to create an artificial reef.

The dinner is at Regina’s Farm, a Brazilian-style urban farm in the Sailboat Bend area of Fort Lauderdale that normally has over a year wait for reservations. Regina is a friend of the project so she made time for this event. Tickets are $100 per person, with proceeds after cost going toward the creation of (at least one) artificial reef ($7,500¬†cost). Each attendee will have their name engraved on a plaque attached to the reef as a “Friend of the Reef”.

What started out as two artists creative outlet and a commissioned body cast sculpture for a gentlemen that owned a yacht turned into a revolutionary initiative to help save our reefs. When bad news was given to founders Ernest Vasquez & Sierra Rasberry as they delivered their commissioned artwork to a buyer who was facing serious legal troubles they asked “what do you want us to do with it?” the buyer replied “I don’t care, throw it in the ocean” – and that’s when the light bulbs went off and changed the course of our lives.

For more information, call 1000 Mermaids Executive Director Evan Snow at 954-242-0655 or email at info@1000mermaids.com. Find Regina’s Farm at 1101 Middle St, Fort Lauderdale (33312)
