SuperyachtDESIGN Week, Day 1: Smart Engineering
Improvements to technology, machinery, production, materials and how we see a project through from start to finish have changed in recent years. Smart engineering enables more sectors of the market to do their jobs more efficiently, leading to improved costs, happier customers and a greener future. How can we make superyachts smarter and more efficient for owners? From concept, to production, to operation, day one will explore the advancements of engineering in all fields of design, and how we can learn from the evolution experienced within fellow industries.

Day 1 – Tuesday 23 June: Smart Engineering

09:00 – 09:30   Coffee and Registration

09:30 – 10:30    Keynote: ‘Distractions’
David Nelson is Co-head of Design at Foster + Partners, one of the world’s most innovative studios for architecture, engineering and design, whose projects range from Beijing International Airport to the redevelopment of the Reichstag in Berlin. His keynote will explore the practice’s yacht commissions, examining how these productive ‘distractions’ have provided a testing ground for new ideas and technologies. He will also explain how the design process draws on the studio’s in-house expertise in engineering, computer and physical model-making, geometry and industrial design.

Elena Cristofori, Rapisardi Intellectual Property
Patrick Ryan, Ince & Co

Design Debate: Material Innovations
A popular topic in years gone by and one that needs revisiting as the use of and construction of materials is always evolving. Looking to other industries and the types of materials being utilised, what can the superyacht industry learn and apply to this market?
Pete Cullum-Kenyon, Cullum Bespoke Ltd
Hans Koome, Market Segment Manager: AkzoNobel Aerospace Cabin & CE

Meet the Designer

Drawing upon over 40 years’ of experience, Terry Disdale will host this ‘Meet the Designer’ session to share his expertise, anecdotes, cautionary tales and what to expect next from this legendary name.

Technical Workshop: Getting Animated
While the use of 3D Printing has grown in recent years, many are still unaware of how the process is utilised and executed. A designer with a plethora of experience in the field will be on hand doing live demos, displaying pre-printed designs and utilising other software, such as CAD to give a closer look into the design process.
Tim Gosling, Gosling Marine

Agis Variani, Chief Stewardess

Design Debate: Unity in the Next Gen
Luxury designers emerging in the superyacht, private jet, high end real estate and luxury design field will host this interesting new workshop on bridging the gap between the fields and how each industry can learn from one another.
