VIKAND, a medical maritime provider for guests, crew, and staff on board cruise ships, yachts, and commercial vessels announced a new air purification system that fights black mold on vessels. Their new Pyure Dynamic Protection system is FDA-approved air purification technology, replicating nature’s process of air and surface purification, according to VIKAND.
Their system generates hydroxyls — highly reactive molecules that naturally occur in Earth’s atmosphere — to actively neutralize mold spores, bacteria, viruses, and other airborne contaminants, VIKAND says. The medical maritime provider announced that their technology eliminates up to 99.9999% of viruses, bacteria, and mold in seconds to hours and is currently installed on 50 superyachts. Their figures show that black mold organisms in the air have been reduced by 99.9% within 30 minutes and undetectable within 90 minutes. These figures are 99.9% in 48 hours on surfaces.
“This technology not only removes existing mold but prevents future growth, offering peace of mind to vessel operators and healthier environments for those on board,” stated Mattias Hallberg, director, technical solutions, VIKAND
VIKAND states that a 140-meter plus yacht that was struggling with severe mold infestations had the airborne mold spores eradicated within weeks after installing Pyure devices. Toxic fungus like black mold can lead to respiratory issues, allergic reactions, and long-term health complications if left unchecked. The new technology also reduces carbon emissions and operational costs by enhancing air recirculation and decreasing resistance, VIKAND states.
