MDL Marina’s Ocean Village Marina in Southampton, UK, gets new pontoons and smart technology. This £2.2 million investment enabled significant work to be completed at Ocean Village Marina. The work started in the 362-berth marina in October 2023. All south-side pontoons were replaced, and new smart electric technology was introduced, with smart meters installed across the marina. The meters allow marina guests to control their electricity accounts, with 24/7 online access to pay and automatic notifications if the power supply is interrupted. The five superyacht berths, which can accommodate boats from 25 to 50 meters, were also upgraded with new concrete pontoons and smart meters with three-phase electricity. Enhanced wave attenuation was also planned to provide a more comfortable stay for guests. With the upgrade complete, the marina can handle vessels from eight to 80 meters. All older pontoons and floats were removed to be reused or recycled. “Our commitment to investing in our marinas is crucial to ensure we are always delivering the highest level of excellence that our berth holders, visitors, and tenants have come to expect,” said Lauren McCann, Ocean Village Marina manager. The marina was voted “Marina of the Year” at the British Yachting Awards in November 2023. It’s the UK’s first five-star marina with a luxury hotel and spa complex. Shops, bars, restaurants, and a cinema surround the marina. Want more? Read the latest Triton issue.
