The 76-foot (23m) Nordhavn M/Y Kahu caught fire while at East Cowes Marina on the Isle of Wight on Nov. 6. Firefighters battled the blaze…
One person is dead and six remain missing after S/Y Bayesian, a 56-meter Perini Navi, sank during a violent storm off the coast of Porticello in Sicily around 5 a.m., according to local media company ANSA.
The superyacht reportedly had 10 guests and 12 crew on board at the time, and the Coast Guard and patrol boats rescued 15 people in total. According to the local fire department, divers, a boat, and a helicopter were on site to search the surface for the missing.
Among those rescued was a one-year-old girl. Among the missing is U.K. tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch. One body has been recovered, and the search remains for the missing six people.
Eight of those on board who were rescued from the life raft, including the one-year-old, were sent to local hospitals and are reportedly in stable condition.
The local fire department reports that the vessel is now lying in about 50 meters of water, and divers from nearby Sassari and Naples are on site to search the vessel. S/Y Bayesian had been anchored about a half-mile offshore. CBS reports that the vessel was hit by a “possible waterspout” spawned by the bad weather and lost her mast, leading to the vessel becoming unstable and ultimately sinking.
