Michael Davies, a former crewmember who spent more than a decade working on yachts of all sizes, has launched HAVN, an app designed to improve crew wellbeing and provide trusted local resources to crew. Davies created HAVN as a central hub for crew, connecting them with vetted providers, services, and events in ports around the world. “I’ve spent most of my life at sea,” Davies said. “I started with my first job on a classic 12-meter sailing yacht and after three years I was managing crews on 45-meter superyachts.” Later I worked as a mate for the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race. Having seen the struggles of finding trusted support in foreign ports, I wanted to create a tool that makes that process easier for crew.” With his extensive career at sea and travel time, Davies has first-hand insight into the challenges crew face when away from home. Crewmembers can access information and services covering health, fitness, wellbeing, cultural activities, and everyday needs like doctors, gyms, therapists, and local events through HAVN. Industry news, informative articles, discounts for crew, and access to resources like CV reviews and contract review tools are also available through the app. “We move between countries constantly, often without the networks or knowledge of what’s available locally. HAVN solves that by being a single, reliable hub that connects crew to vetted services, so they can spend less time worrying and more time enjoying life ashore,” Davies said. Davies and HAVN aim to be a trusted platform for yacht crew — both on and off the yacht. “Our mission is to be trusted by yacht crew as their concierge service and provider for their life in the industry,” Davies added. “The aim is simple: to support yacht crew in every aspect of their well-being, from a new deckhand to a seasoned captain.” HAVN is not focused on recruitment or job listings either. Instead, it provides lifestyle and wellbeing support to crew. “HAVN isn’t about job listings or gossip boards,” Davies said. “It’s about lifestyle, support, and wellbeing. We connect crew to the best providers for their situation, all in one place, and every conversation with crewmembers reinforces that HAVN is something the industry genuinely needs.” HAVN will soon expand its network of partners across key Mediterranean ports like Palma, Antibes, and Barcelona. As Davies and HAVN prepare for their official launch, he is working on expanding the app’s partnerships while refining it based on feedback from initial users. To celebrate the launch of the app, HAVN is hosting an exclusive event on Oct. 19 at Terreno Club in Palma, Mallorca, for yacht crew to get involved in wellbeing activities, like ice baths and a padél tournament. The first 100 crewmembers who sign up for the platform at the launch event will be given early access to test the platform and provide feedback prior to the wider rollout.
