Repsol, a global energy company, has chosen Marina Ibiza as the site for its first trial of 100% renewable fuel for the maritime industry. Local ferry company Trasmapi is also participating alongside Marina Ibiza. They plan to use the Illetas Jet fast ferry between Ibiza and Formentera. As the press release details, renewable fuels, derived from organic waste such as cooking oil or food waste, offer a sustainable and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional fuels. This fast and cost-effective solution for the decarbonization of the maritime industry, with performance and quality comparable to traditional fuels, slashes CO2 emissions by 90%. Marina Ibiza’s Muelle Alfa, the outer dock, was chosen as the location because it can handle vessels up to 110 meters. “It will be very important for Marina Ibiza to count on this product in the near future, so we’re making our facilities available to Repsol for them to consider its introduction in Ibiza,” said Dani Marí, manager of Marina Ibiza. “As we’ve always said, one of our main goals is to help protect the environment.
