The Coast Guard Foundation will continue to assist Coast Guard families affected by recent weather events and is asking for donations to help. The Coast Guard Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to supporting the Coast Guard community, announced on Oct. 9 that it will continue assisting Coast Guard families affected by Hurricanes Helene, Beryl, and Tropical Storm Debby and glacial flooding in Juneau, Alaska. With Hurricane Milton also making landfall in Florida this week, the organization is preparing to extend support to Coast Guard members affected by this latest storm. Hurricane Helene, a Category 4 storm, wreaked havoc across Florida’s Big Bend and the Gulf Coast and into several states at the end of September, leaving behind sunken vessels, flooded homes, and environmental threats. Coast Guard crews are aiding in rescue and recovery operations in the affected areas. The Coast Guard Foundation has activated its emergency disaster relief program for the seventh time this year to provide aid to Coast Guard members and their families facing hardships due to these natural disasters. The program offers financial assistance to help cover the costs of necessities, home repairs, temporary housing, and emergency travel. “This has been a particularly devastating hurricane season, with intense storms Beryl, Debby, Helene, and Milton all causing devastation to coastal communities,” said Susan Ludwig, president of the Coast Guard Foundation. “The Coast Guard answers the call when we are most in need, and it is our duty to be there for them in theirs. Please help us help these heroes.” The Coast Guard Foundation needs donations to support service members in need.
