The Italian Sea Group (TISG), the builder of Mike Lynch’s S/Y Bayesian, filed a £399m claim in a court in Sicily against Lynch’s widow. According to a report by The Telegraph, TISG is alleging that the crew and the superyacht’s holding company were responsible for its sinking. The claim also says the builder has lost hundreds of millions of euros in sales as a result of being blamed for the tragedy. Seven people died, including Lynch, after a violent storm hit the vessel off the coast of Sicily in August 2024. Lynch’s wife, Angela Bacares Lynch, survived the sinking and is now the owner of the entity that owned the yacht. TISG claims that crew incompetence and negligence caused the yacht to capsize during the storm, stating the crew failed to shut hatches, heed weather warnings, and lower the vessel’s keel, according to The Telegraph. The claim conflicts with a Marine Accident Investigation Branch interim report released in May 2025 that found “vulnerabilities” that the crew were unaware of, which could have led to the sinking.
