A blaze originating from a commercial tourist vessel caused a marina fire in Greece, destroying two yachts in the flames. A marina fire engulfed and destroyed two yachts on Thursday, Aug. 1, at Zea Marina in Piraeus, Greece, according to local reports. The fire originated from a commercial tourist vessel which then spread to a newly launched 32.96-meter Golden Yachts M/Y O’Riana and the 42.49-meter Picchiotti M/Y Libra Y, sinking the two vessels. The tourist vessel was also destroyed. Explosions occurred during the marina fire, according to reports. The emergency response to the marina fire included 10 vehicles, 26 firefighters, 10 fire engines, three coastguard boats, and a fire brigade vessel. Ten individuals were rescued from the pier of the marina, and while no civilians were injured during the fire, one firefighter was hospitalized due to breathing issues. The coastguard deployed a floating barrier to manage potential area pollution. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
